Once upon a
time, there was a girl, who dreamt about doing something extraordinary. She
grew up overcoming obstacles, and finally found her dream come true! So, you
must be thinking that I am going to render a fairy tale here, but nay! You are
wrong! Although the story seems like a fairy tale, it is very much real and it
happened here, in India. It is the story of a girl who made her way through the
Limca Book of Records!
Sushma
Verma was born and brought up in Lucknow, in a family with dire straits. Her
father, Tej Bahadur, who is a laborer, couldn’t give her much but tried
everything to fulfill her dream of doing something different! Am talking about a
‘little girl’ here, because whatever she has achieved till date is quite
impossible for anyone of just 13 years of age! Yes! She passed her Xth when
she was 7 years old and then completed her +2 being just 10! Amazing, isn’t it?
But her wonders didn’t stop here and she even graduated in Zoology and Botany
from the CMS Girl’s Degree College in Lucknow, and now she has got a call from
the Lucknow University to pursue her MSc in Microbiology along with a PhD.
To carry
forward her education, Sushma’s father even had to sell off his land of one
bigha for Rs. 25,000. With the fund, he just confirmed a seat in the university
but Sushma, however, felt that she might not be selected in the course. But
with all God’s grace, her name appeared in the Second Merit List and she was at
the top of the world! She used to live in the hostel premises of the St.
Meera’s Inter College with her family but was asked to vacate the room around 2
months ago. Now, they live in a shabby, one room house in the Bargawan Village
and according to Sushma, “It’s a dark
room and the neighborhood isn’t nice. It is hard to study here.”
But now,
God seems to be pouring funds for the little girl! Bindeshwar Pathak of Sulabh
International, which specializes in the field of hygiene and sanitation, has
offered a staggering amount of 5 lakhs for the future of the girl and he will
visit Sushma’s place in a few days. Once asked, Pathak replied, “Sushma is an inspiration for all the
students belonging to the elite background.”
True to the
core, whatever Pathak said might have hit the minds of those who live in the
high class societies and trying every single thing to make their children’s’
future bright by admitting them in the best of the institutions! So, what
actually led Sushma do something so eccentric and wonderful? May be her
willpower to provide a better living to her family, her illiterate mother and
her hardworking father!
Not only
Pathak, but even the B-town celebs couldn’t stop themselves from coming forward
and offering fiscal aid to Sushma and her future. Lyricist Javed Akhter has
raised interest in supporting Sushma’s education. On this, the modest Tej
Bahadur replied that although he is pleased to know that the Bollywood stars
have shown interests in financially helping his daughter’s studies, he now just
wants his daughter to concentrate on her studies and not to think about the
monetary issues much. Now, this is what we call actual culture, isn’t it?
The chief
Proctor of Lucknow University, Mr. Manoj Dixit, is now all set to find out a
better place to accommodate the Verma family. He is more than happy to welcome
the wonder kid in the university premises and is looking forward to have her
there.
So, this
was the story. The story of a little girl who has made it large! With her
power, the power of her will, and faith on herself, on her parents and the
almighty! She knew that nothing is impossible and she showed it to the world.
She is a girl which makes us proud to be Indians. A country where we read more
about molests and rapes in the newspapers every single day, a girl like her
comes up as an answer to those who thinks that the fairer sex is weak.
